Julia loved riding in a blow up boat we got for $6 at the grocery store down there and Emily was all about playing in the sand and running to the water to fill up her watering can. She was usually busy making pasta salad or pancakes out of sand and wrecking sand castles grandma or grandpa made for her. They got to see dolphins almost everyday and got pretty good at helping us haul beach equipment. Emily liked to ride in the elevator, which she called "the alligator" and would look up at all of us crowded in there and say, "Where going today?" The answer was always, "The beach!" They both loved the plane rides and even napped in the airport in their stroller. Now, they tell us their baby dolls are "sleeping airport" and put blankets over the top of their doll strollers.
Potty training was definitely memorable...ugh. Julia wanted orange undies and Emily wanted aqua. I found some, so we started potty training one weekend. It was one of the LEAST fun things we have ever done as a family! The good news is that they are doing pretty well now after some ups and downs. Barry was amazing in being patient and encouraging with the girls and following the plan we chose. All the hard work was worth it as two weeks later, we are just working on getting number 2 to the potty every time. We learned that potty training two toddlers at the same time is a great way to exhaust yourself! Thank goodness for all the help and encouragement we got from family and friends during that time! I even had a friend show up with lunch one day because she thought I might be a little overwhelmed. What great people we know here!
This past weekend, we had a beach party for their 2nd birthday which was a lot of fun and a great memory. I plan to post those photos soon!
Julia learned to walk on her heels and thinks she's pretty cool!
